As the BJP is facing a lot of flak over the Citizenship Amendment Act with people coming out in protest from all across the states, rival political parties too are also leaving no chance to defame and attack the saffron party over the issue.
Main opposition party Congress to launched a scathing attack on BJP on Monday. Senior party leader Rahul Gandhi targeted Modi for a crackdown on students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Addressing a Congress party dharna at Rajghat, he said, “When you (Narendra Modi) lathicharge students and fire upon them, then you attempt to silence the voice of this country.”
Talking about the state of the economy, he said that Narendra Modi must answer to the nation why the growth rate which used to be 9 per cent has fallen to 4 per cent. “You couldn’t give jobs and derailed the economy that’s why you are spreading hatred and trying to divide this country,” he alleged, speaking at the dharna where the entire top Congress leadership, led by party chief Sonia Gandhi, sat on a ‘Satyagraha for Unity’, demanding protection of the rights of people as enshrined in the Constitution.
“What our enemies could not do, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is trying its best to do – stall its progress,” Rahul Gandhi said, addressing the gathering later.
Janata Dal United leader Prashant Kishorthanked Rahul Gandhi for “joining citizens’ movement” against the citizenship law and NRC and asked him to get all chief ministers of his party to declare that they will not implement the NRC.
Meanwhile, amid protests across the country over the new citizenship law, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to God for enabling Indian citizenship for persecuted minorities.
Hailing the government over its push to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said, “Narendra Modi has emerged as a God for those who were persecuted and living in hell.”
“Bhagwan ne jeewandiya, maa ne janamdiya, lekin Narendra Modi ji ne fir se zindagi di hai [God gave life, mother gave birth but Narendra Modiji gave them a new life],” Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in Jaipur as he spoke on the Citizenship Amendment Act.
