With Coronavirus spreading like wildfire in over 100 countries, the first case of a celebrity being infected by the virus has come to fore.
Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Sharing the news on Wednesday, Hanks tweeted about the development adding that the couple was in Australia right now.
“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” he wrote on Twitter and Instagram, along with a photo of a surgical glove.


Tom Hanks is the first major Hollywood star to publicly state that he has the virus that is sweeping around the world, infecting over 1.25 lakh people and killing over 4,000.
Hanks was on the Gold Coast currently working on the film based on Elvis Presley. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the film features Hanks as the legendary singer’s longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker. The Warner Bros film was in pre-production when Hanks was diagnosed, and has been halted while the situation is monitored.
“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film… has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus),” the studio said in a statement.
Australia, where Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were tested positive, has 136 confirmed cases of coronavirus and three deaths.
Earlier Wednesday, the World Health Organization declared the situation as a pandemic. As of now, there have been at least 118,381 global cases of coronavirus, according to WHO.
