Prime Minister Narendra Modi weaved his magic and won hearts yet again as he addressed a strong crowd of 50,000 people including Indian-Americans at Houston, Texas, as part of his visit to the US.

Modi on Sunday cheered for Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election bid at the ‘Howdy, Modi’ event here, saying ‘AbkiBaar, Trump Sarkar”, as the U.S. president joined him at the mega gathering.

At the event, Modi and Trump clasped hands as they took the stage to a mix of drumbeats and cheers. Many spectators in the crowd of wore white T-shirts that proclaimed: “Howdy, Modi.”

“I’m so thrilled to be here in Texas with one of America’s greatest, most devoted and most loyal friends, Prime Minister Modi of India,” Trump told the crowd at the 90-minute show, featuring 400 performers.

Trump also paid tribute to the Indian-American community, telling them “we are truly proud to have you as Americans”.

Modi said the lawmakers in the Indian Parliament deserved a standing ovation for abrogating Article 370 while making it clear that his government was ready to make possible what seemed impossible.

“Article 370 had deprived people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh of development. Terrorist and separatist elements were misusing the situation. Now after abrogation, people there have got equal rights,” PM said adding that the Constitution that was for the rest of India was now also for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Referring to the comments made by Pakistan over abrogation of Article 370–that conferred special status on Jammu and Kashmir–Prime Minister pointed out Islamabad’s role in promoting terror in the region without naming the neighbouring country.

“Some people have a problem with abrogation of article 370, these are same people who can’t govern their own country properly. These are the same people who shield terrorism and nurture it. Whole world knows them very well,” said PM Modi.

Welcoming Mr. Trump, Mr. Modi said, “We have met a few times, and every time he has been the same warm, friendly, energetic and accessible. I admire him also for his sense of leadership and passion for America.”
