Superstar Rajinikanth on Thursday said the people of Tamil Nadu will create a wonder and marvel in the state in 2021, when the next Assembly elections are due.
“In 2021, people of Tamil Nadu will 100 percent create a big wonder and marvel in politics,” Rajinikanth said in an apparent reference to the polls due in two years.
The actor, who had announced he will float his own political party and face the 2021 polls, also said issues such as sharing power in case of an alliance with Kamal Haasan of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) could be discussed only in the run-up to the elections.
The actor’s response was to a query about an AIADMK leader insisting Rajinikanth’s “spiritual politics” was not possible in the “Dravida land” of Tamil Nadu. Incidentally, AIADMK mouthpiece ‘Namathu Amma’ carried an article on Thursday saying Rajinikanth’s “spiritual politics” and Haasan’s pro-Left leanings cannot go hand-in-hand in the event of them aligning politically.
It is not clear what transpired between the two Tamil film stars, but the ground reality is that Rajinikanth — two years after a dramatic announcement that he will enter politics — is yet to even name his political party, and Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), seems a long way from proving to be a credible political force in Tamil Nadu.
Although MK Stalin, President of the DMK, led the party to a massive sweep in the Lok Sabha polls, he failed to deliver enough seats to topple the ruling AIADMK dispensation in the by-elections to over 25 constituencies.
