From continuously losing grip over Indian states, the Bhartiya Janata Party lost 5th state in a row when Jharkhand slipped out of his hand as JMM-Congress alliance won the recently held state assembly elections.
In addition to that, a day after being defeated in the Jharkhand general election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) receives another jolt from urban voters in Chhattisgarh. The results that were declared for the December 21 urban civic body polls turned out to be a mixed bag for Congress and the BJP.
However, the Congress has won 923 of 2,032 wards for which the results are out till now; the BJP is not far behind with 814 wards.
In Kondagaon,of the 21 wards that went to polls, the BJP won in 14, while the Congress bagged the remaining seven.
In Farasgaon Nagar panchayat in Kondagaon district, the BJP won eight of the 15 wards and the Congress bagged six wards. In Keshkal Nagar panchayat in the same district, seven of the 15 wards went to the Congress’ kitty, while six wards were won by the BJP and two by independents.
A total of 5427 polling booths were set up for voting through ballot papers. Of that, 5399 polling stations were set up for general elections and 28 polling stations for by-elections.
The Congress has won 18 of the 38 municipal councils and BJP 17; of the 103 Nagar Panchayats, the Congress has taken 48 and the BJP 40; the Congress has won seven of 10 municipal corporations.
Of the 70 wards in Raipur Municipal Corporation, the BJP has so far won 23 and the Congress 22.
The state is currently ruled by Congress-led government under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel after the party came to power following the 2018 Assembly elections.
The counting of votes, which began yesterday, is still on as some seats switched to ballot boxes for the election.
