US President Donald Trump is in India for a two-day visit. The world leader, who is accompanied by by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner and a host of senior officials of the US administration, paid a quick visit to Agra’s Taj Mahal before making way to Delhi.
Earlier in the day, he landed at Ahmedabad, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted him with his trademark ‘bear hug’. The two leaders, along with other delegates, visited the Sabarmati Ashram.
The grand ‘Namaste Trump’ event was organised to welcome the US leader. While thanking India for a warm welcome, Trump addressed a massive crowd of over 1 lakh people at Motera stadium in Gujarat.
Here are few important statements that Trump made during his speech:
• Trump in his speech termed India as the “largest export market”, and affirmed that commercial activities between India and America will only grow.
• Trump said that India is a key partner in the Defence sector and promised to seal defence deal worth $3 billion on February 25.
• Beginning his speech with a ‘namaste’, Trump said “We will go for fantastic trade deal, PM Modi is tough negotiator”.
• “The landmark Afghan peace deal has received ‘tremendous support’. We look forward to providing the best and most feared military equipment to India,” he said.
• “America loves India, America respects India, and America will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people,” he said.
• Trump praised Modi saying, “From this day on, India will always hold a very special in our hearts. The life of Prime Minister Modi underscores the limiteless promise of this great nation. He started out by his father’s side, as a chaiwala, a tea seller. When he was young man, he worked at a cafeteria in this city. Everybody loves him but I will tell you this, he is very tough.”
