A major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Khambhat, Anand district of Gujarat on Sunday (June 28) morning. No injuries have been reported so far.

15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to bring the raging inferno under control.

The administration has evacuated the surrounding areas, after the blaze.

Some parts of the neighbouring plastic manufacturing company were also damaged in the fire.

The incident came after three people sustained critical injuries when a major fire broke out in a chemical company situated in the PanoliGIDC in Bharuch’s Ankleshwar in the early hours of Thursday.

Bharuch Collector MD Modia said the blaze was triggered by an explosion in the boiler room of the factory, located in the Dahej area. “Around 35-40 workers received burn injuries after the boiler of an agro-chemical company exploded in the afternoon,” he said. “All the injured have been taken to hospitals in Bharuch, and efforts are on to control the fire.”

A senior Police official said that the fire broke out due to short circuit according to the preliminary report, however further reasons have been ascertained. He also said that the raw material present in the factory is flammable due to which the it has become difficult to control the fire.
