On April 10, during the fourth phase of West Bengal election, there was a case of violence in Sitalkuchi, where four people were killed by central security forces.
The actual incident which triggered the violence has come in the light. Minal Haque, class VIII student was playing at a distance of 800 metres from the polling booth number 126.
A team of central forces, known as QRT(quick reaction team) arrived in a vehicle at the playground and started interrogating the kid. After being unable to comprehend what the kid was saying in his response, one of the men in the security forces hit the kid with the baton of his rifle in his spine and waist.
As the kid fell down, chaos spread.
Father of Minal, Majid Mian rushed to get the kid to hospital, where doctors told him to get ultrasonography and CT scan done. Majid’s family is now grappling with the cost of diagnosis and treatment of Minal.
This incident led the villagers to protest around the polling booth which led to open-firing which killed four people.
The inordinate aggressiveness shown by the central forces point out to the meddling of vested interests, BJP to be specific in the handling of security situation in the state election.
Villagers accused the forces of continued firing for around two hours. This incident points out that the central forces were actually firing with the intention to kill.
This shows the submissive & indifferent attitude of the election commission of India (to centre) which is yet to take stringent action against the personnel of the security forces.
Four phases of the West Bengal election remain, and the vote counting will take place on May 02.
