The BJP on Tuesday released the second list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly polls. The party has fielded state Yuva Morcha President Sunil Yadav from the New Delhi constituency against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Following the development, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the saffron party has surrendered before the polls.
“Going by this list and BJP candidate against CM Kejriwal, it seems, BJP has surrendered,” AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj tweeted on Tuesday.
He added that the ruling AAP will win all the 70 seats in the February 8 Assembly elections.
The list was announced after midnight following the announcement of Siromani Akali Dal (SAD) to not contest the Delhi polls in alliance with the BJP due to its stand on the Citizenship Amendment Act.
An advocate by profession, Yadav worked his way up the ranks from being the District President Yuva Morcha, Delhi General Secretary of Yuva Morcha, BJP. The party banked on his youth appeal while putting him against one of the most formidable candidates this poll season — Arvind Kejriwal.
The list also includes the names of BJP candidates Sumanlata Shokeen, who would content from Nangloi Jat, Ravindra Chaudhary from Kasturba Nagar, Kusum Khatri from Mehrauli and Anil Goyal from Krishna Nagar. In the first list, BJP had released 57 names in which figures like AAP rebel Kapil Mishra and BJP veteran Vijender Gupta figured.
While the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) formed pre-poll alliance with the BJP for the assembly election in Delhi, the saffron party’s age-old ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stay off.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal will today file his nomination for the February 8 poll, a day after the process was postponed as Kejriwal failed to reach the EC office on time, due to a massive roadshow by the AAP.
“I had to file my nomination today [Monday] but I could not because the nomination office closes at 3 pm and was late. I was repeatedly told to come off (vehicle) and travel to the nomination office, but how could I go? I could not leave behind the outpouring love and support from my people. We are ending the roadshow here. I will go along with my family and file my nomination on Tuesday,” Kejriwal said.
