Delhi Police has urged people to not hold gatherings as farmers assembled near Delhi borders have decided to hold a protest on May 26. The Farmers’ unions have planned to observe ‘black day’ on Wednesday, May 26, on the completion of six months of their stir against the three farm laws passed in parliament. Delhi Police has asked people to not gather in view of the ongoing second wave of Covid19 and the lockdown reinitiated in this regard in Delhi region.

Chinmoy Biswas, PRO of Delhi Police stated that a tight vigil will be kept over any development near the Delhi border and that action will be taken against anyone who try to take the law into their own hands. He also added that police force is present at protest sites like Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur and will not allow any illegal activity or entry.
The black day was announced by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of the protesting farmers’ unions. Bharat Kisan Union will also observe Black day.
Rakesh Tikait of BKU stated, “We are also carrying the tricolour. It has been 6 months now, but Govt is not listening to us. So farmers are putting up black flags. It will be done peacefully. We are following Covid protocols. Nobody is coming here. People are putting up flags wherever they are.”

In Punjab, people have out up black flags at their houses and on their tractors in Chhabba village of Amritsar.
On the political side of the farmers’ protests, 12 political parties including Congress, TMC, Left front, SP, DMK, and NCP have extended their support to the farmers.
