With Delhi polls slated to happen in the coming ties, the Election Commission is prepping up for the same.
The Election Commission will be launching the ‘Booth app’, which will automate real-time collection and display of booth-wise voter data, for the first time, for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
Using the mobile application, once a voter enters a particular booth, their identification will be scanned by officials and their details will be automatically verified, Chief Election Officer Ranbir Singh said.
Following this, the voter will be “logged out” once they have cast their ballot, he added.
While pilot versions of the app had been deployed at by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana, the Delhi Assembly elections will see the full implementation of the app.
According to officials, the app will show and update real time data of different types of information, such as demographic data and voter turnout. The app will also allow the voters to check queues at their polling booths and help them time their visit accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Congress will give “priority” to the youth in ticket distribution for the upcoming assembly polls in Delhi.
Congress Delhi unit president Subhash Chopra asserted that the party will ‘expose’ the ruling BJP at the Centre and the AAP government in the national capital on the promises made by them to people. “Just wait and see what happens in the coming days. We will do something which you can not imagine right now,” he told reporters.
On the other hand, pollution has taken centre stage perhaps for the first time in Indian democracy, especially with the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) started the campaign on pollution in Delhi even before the air quality worsened to alarming levels in the National Capital Region.
Delhi goes to the polls in February. While the last election was fought on the issue of corruption, AAP has moved to development issues, including pollution.
