After the fourth-phase of the election in West Bengal, which saw firings by the central forces, Mamata Banerjee carried out a candle-march rally in Bardhaman. The rally was purportedly carried out to mourn the deaths of the firings by the central forces in Sitalkuchi. CM Banerjee led the rally on a wheelchair.

Mamata Banerjee also castigated the Election commission of India by stating that the poll body should rename the Model code of conduct as Modi code of conduct. She underscored that while BJP can use all the might, nothing can stop her from being with the people and share their pain.

In the aftermath of the firings in the fourth-phase polling, the election commission of India has banned the entry of politicians in the Cooch Behar district for three days.

Mamata Banerjee spoke at a press conference in Siliguri yesterday. At the conference, Ms. Banerjee asserted that the killing of the villagers by the central forces was nothing but genocide. She added, “They fired by targeting chest. If their intention was to disperse mob, they may fire on leg, but they targeted chest.”

On Sunday, Union home minister, Amit Shah, who is into rallies across West Bengal stated, “Mamata’s advice to gherao central forces instigated people to attack CISF personnel.”

West Bengal election 2021 has shown its fair share of violence between the party-workers of TMC and BJP. But, on April 10, it spilled between the people who came to vote and the central forces.

Election in West Bengal is scheduled to be held in 8 phases from March 27 to April, 29, with four phases remaining. The vote counting will take place on May, 02.
