Amid escalating tensions with India at LAC, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China will never seek hegemony or pursue expansionist policies. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Xi added that China has no intention of fighting a hot or a cold war against any country in the world. He added that China is committed to peaceful, open and common development.
Addressing the general debate of the 75th session of the UNGA, he said, “We will continue to narrow differences and resolve disputes with others through dialogue and negotiation.”
“We will continue to narrow differences and resolve disputes with others through dialogue and negotiation. We will not seek to develop only ourselves or engage in a zero-sum game,” Xi Jinping said.
The statement comes as China is engaged in a tussle at the LAC in Ladakh with Indian forces. The tensions which started with China’s efforts to unilaterally change the status quo had also led to a violent faceoff in Galwan valley leading to casualties on both sides.
Earlier on Tuesday, a joint statement was issued by India and China where the two armies have agreed to not send more troops to the disputed border.
The joint statement that was issued also states that another round of military-level talks will happen soon. The Corp commander level talks that took place on Monday in Moldo went on to 13 hours. The joint statement also agrees to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.
It has also agreed to strengthen communication on the ground and to avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments. The Chinese President has also agreed that no intervention will be made to fight a war. President Xi Jinping also stated that China will resolve disputes via dialogue and negotiation.
