The decision on CBSE Class 12 Exam 2021 hangs in the air casting aspersions on the minds of students. It was to be announced by Union government on June 1, 2021. As of now, the CBSE has not decided anything and will file reply in the Supreme Court in response to a PIL seeking cancellation of exams.
On May 31, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that a decision on Class 12 exams will be taken in the next two days.
In the meantime, Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal has been admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi due to post-Covid complications.
With regards to the PIL filed in Supreme Court for cancellation of the exams, the bench would be hearing the case on June 3, 2021. Supreme Court has asked Centre, CBSE, ICSE to give good reason if they decide to conduct the exam.
The state governments have already submitted their detailed suggestions on the conduct and format of CBSE Class 12 exams to the Ministry.
On May 23, a high-level meeting on the CBSE Class 12 exam issue was conducted. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Union ministers Ramesh Pokhriyal, Smriti Irani, Prakash Javadekar, and Sanjay Dhotre besides education ministers and secretaries of several states and Union territories. After the meeting, the Education Minister had said that the decision regarding the conduct of the exam is likely to be announced by June 1.

Many state governments have already shared their opinion to conduct CBSE Class 12 exams this year in offline mode. They have also suggested on decreasing the duration of the examination.
In the series of tweets, the Education Minister assured that both students’ and teachers’ safety, security, and future are supremely important to them and no decision will be taken by compromising on these factors amid pandemic.
As decision is awaited, experts are unanimous in their decision that conducting the examination is not feasible. There is a very potent fear of the exams causing a third wave to the mental and physical impact of the examination on students. Hence, medical professionals have claimed that conducting board examinations at the present time is not a possible solution.
