A voter turnout of 15.6 per cent, which is significantly lower than the 2015 assembly polls in Delhi, was recorded till noon, as the national capital today is set to elect a new government.

Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi has cast her vote at Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi assembly constituency. She was accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who also cast her vote. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cast his vote at a polling booth on Aurangzeb lane.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his day by urging Delhiites to come out and vote in large numbers, on twitter.

“Urging the people of Delhi, especially my young friends, to vote in record numbers,” PM Modi tweeted.

Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between AAP and Congress workers near Majnu ka Teela. Congress candidate Alka Lamba tried to slap an AAP worker after a lewd remark was passed at her.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh has said the party will complain to Election Commission.

Tight security arrangements are in place across the national capital with extra vigil in south-east Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, where a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act is going on, and other sensitive areas.
