The earlier edition of Vellore Lok Sabha elections along with other seats in Tamil Nadu that were scheduled in April were scraped following the tax raids and seizure of money. The bypoll for the same was conducted on 5 August again the result for which is out. Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the Vellore Lok Sabha bypoll defeating the All India Anna Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam ( AIADMK) with a difference of 8,142 votes.
DMK bagged a total of 485,340 votes while AIADMK had 477,199 votes in its plate. Counting of the votes for this constituency took place in the premises set up in an Engineering College. The centre was under the surveillance of 70 CCTV cameras along with a three tier security paraphernalia, as per the officials.
The main contenders on the whole were AC Shanmugam from AIADMK and DM Kathir Anand from DMK out of the total 28 candidates.
After winning the constituency bypolls, DMK chief Stalin thanks the voters by saying that the victory was “exceptional and unparalleled”. He also says that the victory is due to their leaders hard work dedicating the victory to their leader.
