As Bihar elections are nearby, the political rage among the ruling and opposition parties has heightened. While the Opposition parties like the RJD, the Congress, the Left are stressing on delaying the assembly elections owing to the Corona pandemic, the ruling JDU-BJP coalition is preferring to have elections on the decided date.

The debate was fueled after a portion of the approach road to a bridge opened by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar only last month was washed away by floodwaters of the Gandak . the opposition has been accusing the ruling government of thinking about only elections, rather than actually taking care of people or the development of the state.

As a major addition to this development, a source close to us has also reiterated the same thing. “The government is just worried about the elections, nothing else. The government is for control, not your benefit. The situation is dangerous now. It is becoming more than suffocating,” the source shared with MeraVote.

In the same context, Bihar-based political parties didn’t bring up any talk of postponing the assembly elections, scheduled for later this year, at a meeting with the Election Commission Friday.

“None of the parties said elections should be postponed,” said a senior commission officer. “On the other hand, they discussed issues like reducing voters at each polling booth even further, how the commission will monitor expenditure limits since all campaigning will happen digitally…The parties also raised concerns regarding digital campaigning and the lack of a level-playing field,” the officer added.

Opposition parties have been arguing that the concept of digital campaigning “is socially and economically discriminatory” and “violative of a level-playing field in the democratic exercise” as it would exclude a large section of the rural population that has no or limited access to digital connectivity.

Conducting the upcoming assembly elections is going to be a ‘more than usual’ expensive affair due to challenges that have emerged following the Coronavirus pandemic. From ensuring social distancing to digital process, everything is going to cost more money, as compared to the usual process.
