Addressing a public rally in support of Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that anyone who is raising slogans of ‘Azadi’ will be charged with sedition.
Coming down heavily on protestors against CAA, Yogi said that such acts will not be tolerated and the ones practicing it will be charged strictly.
Speaking in Kanpur at a function that’s part of the BJP’s outreach to the people regarding the law, Yogi Adityanath said, “If anyone raises slogans of Azadi in the name of protest, it will amount to sedition and the government will take strict action. It can’t be accepted. People can’t be allowed to conspire against India from Indian soil”.
His statement drew flak from the opposition who slammed Yogi for making such claims. While the Samajwadi Party drew an analogy with the British rule, the Congress termed it “a language of dictators”.
This is not for the first time that Yogi has raised eyebrows with his comments where he spoke his mind without mincing words. Take a look at few other times when Yogi hit the headlines when he opened his mouth:
1.Praising Donald Trump
“Trump’s victory has given politics a new direction, a new flow.” He also waxed lyrical about the US President’s travel ban and proposed a similar step in India.
2.SRK is like Hafiz Saeed
“Shah Rukh Khan should remember that if a huge mass in society would boycott his films, he will also have to wander on streets like a normal Muslim….I am saying these people are speaking in a terrorist language. I think there is no difference between the language of Shah Rukh Khan and Hafiz Saeed.”
3.Mother Teresa was a farce
“Mother Teresa was part of the conspiracy to Christianise India. Hindus were converted in the name of doing service and then converted
4.Yoga or death
“Those who see communalism in doing Surya Namaskar, I appeal to them to go jump in the sea.”
5.Comparing women to energy
“Just like unbridled energy can be destructive and can go haywire, so too if the spirit of women are not controlled then it can prove dangerous.”
6.Women become demons
“If men acquire women-like qualities, they become gods but when women acquire men like qualities, they become gods but when women acquire men like qualities, they become (‘rakshasa’) demon like.”
