Just as the Independence Day celebrations begin on 15th August, the entire country is already engulfed in patriotism as the movie ‘shershah’, based on Kargil war hero captain Vikram Batra, is already winning hearts, across the country. Streaming on Amazon Prime, the film sees actor Siddharth Malhotra playing the role of the young martyr and Kiara Advani essaying the role of Dimple Cheema, Vikram’s girlfriend.
While Siddharth has impressed with his acting scenes, the film’s clima leaves you with a heavy hearts and teary eyes, where Captain Vikram sacrifices his life while bravely fighting the enemies for his country. Captain Vikram Batra sent out the message in codeword ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’ to announce that the peak had been retaken.
Captain Batra led his team in the fight for control of the peak 5140 (approx height 17,000 feet) on June 20. He led from the front, lobbed grenades even after being shot and even engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy soldiers.
Captain Vikram Batra was posthumously conferred with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military award, on 15 August 1999 by the then President KR Narayanan.
