The infamous Kanpur encounter has yet again brought to light how few cops and criminals have a secret tie-up, and how they work for each other, under the table!
Till date, three policemen have been suspended for their alleged involvement in tipping off Dubey ahead of the police raid in which eight cops lost their lives and seven were seriously injured. The suspended police personnel include two sub-inspectors and a constable.

In a major revelation on Sunday, an aide of the absconding gangster, Dayashankar Agnihotri, had admitted that someone from the police department had called Dubey and alerted him about the police raid.

The political connections of Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the brutal killing of eight police personnel in Kanpur on Friday, were so strong that his name did not figure in the list of top ten criminals of the district despite 71 criminal cases registered against his name.

Kanpur SSP Dinesh Kumar said he became aware that the police team was going to arrest an accused with circle officer Bilhaur heading the operation but admitted he was not aware of Vikas Dubey’s criminal antecedents.

Meanwhile, in a major breakthrough for Uttar Pradesh police, a close aide of gangster Vikas Dubey, who is blamed for the killing of 8 policemen in Kanpur on July 2, was shot dead in an encounter by Special Task Force (STF) in Hamirpur district on Wednesday morning.

The man has been identified as Amar Dubey said to close aide of history-sheeter Vikas Dubey. Amar Dubey was also named in the FIR and was wanted in the case.

Eight policemen were killed in the encounter which broke out when police went to arrest Vikas Dubey in Bikru village under Chaubepur police station.

During the look out for Dubey, the policemen came under heavy fire from his 8-10 associates. The criminals reportedly blocked the way of the cops with heavy machinery and fired indiscriminately from rooftops.

Although the police are still very tightlipped about whether it is close to whereabouts of gangster Vikas Dubey and his other henchmen.
