A day after Congress government almost crashed in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi targeted and blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the big development. Taking a dig at him, Rahul accused him of being too busy “destabilising an elected government” to notice a crash in global oil prices this week.

“Hey @PMOIndia, while you were busy destabilising an elected Congress Govt, you may have missed noticing the 35% crash in global oil prices,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted this morning.

“Could you please pass on the benefit to Indians by slashing #petrol prices to under Rs 60 per litre? Will help boost the stalled economy,” he added.

The Congress has been left scrambling to retain power in Madhya Pradesh after long-time party leader JyotiradityaScindia unexpectedly resigned from the party position, as he wrote a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi, saying “it is now time for me to move on”. He also wrote: “To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start.”

JyotiradityaScindia had reportedly been unhappy with the Congress leadership for about a year. Once close to the Gandhi family, he lost the race for chief ministership to Kamal Nath in 2018, when the party won the Madhya Pradesh election. The Gwalior royal is likely to join the BJP this week.

Speaking on the party development, Congress leader Digvijay Singh tweeted, “No question he was not at all sidelined. In fact, please ask any Congress Leader from MP particularly from Gwalior Chambal Division and you would come to know nothing moved in this area without his consent in last 16 months. Sad. But I wish him well under Modi-Shah Tutelage.”

Amid the high-voltage political drama, Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot launched a scathing attack on the young leader, accusing him of betraying both ideology and trust of people.

Gehlot took to Twitter soon after Scindia announced his resignation and said: “Joining hands with BJP in a time of national crisis speaks volumes about a leader’s self-indulgent political ambitions. Especially when the BJP ruining the economy, democratic institutions, social fabric and as well the Judiciary.”

In another tweet, Gehlot said: “Mr Scindia has betrayed the trust of the people as well as the ideology. Such people prove they can’t thrive without power. Sooner they leave the better.”
