On Saturday, a special campaign was launched by The Madhya Pradesh government to make the state garbage-free.

”Prime minister Narendra Modi started ‘Gandagi Bharat Chhodo campaign’ and now will be spread among the masses in Madhya Pradesh”, said state Urban Development and Housing minister, Bhupendra Singh.

Launching the “Gandgi Bharat Chhodo Madhya Pradesh” (Free India and Madhya Pradesh from garbage) drive from Sagar, accumulation of garbage is a big problem in cities, he added.

The minister also mentioned, this would be a 15 days campaign from August 16 to 30, under which cleaning of personal and public toilets and work to generate consciousness among the citizens towards waste management will be undertaken.

Under the campaign, between August 16 and 17, oath for cleanliness will be governed and deliberations will be held with the citizens in slums and colonies through non-governmental organizations in connection to maintenance of personal and public toilets. In urban bodies, oath for cleanliness will be administered in residential complexes, prominent places and offices.

Online dialogues and discussions will be organized with youths and students in urban bodies in context to (4 R) from August 18 to 20, i.e. No Plastic and Recycle, Re-use, Reduce and Refuse. With the help of civil organizations and Public Representatives, awareness activities will be organized in connection to ban use of plastic in markets and public places. The plaque run will be arranged by the citizens on this occasion.

From August 21 to 23, awareness on COVID norms will be generated among the people as regard to safe disposal of used napkins and masks etc.

Further, from August 24 to 26, discussions will be held between the members of voluntary organizations and residential associations.

In the last phase, from August 26 to 30, cleanliness campaign inside and outside all the public toilets will be launched by the civic bodies.

During this 15 days campaign, urban bodies will be ranked as per their performance and the best ones will be awarded by chief minister.
