Currently, the opposition at the national level is uniting to save West Bengal led by Mamata Banerjee from the clutches of aggression by the saffron party. On the eve of the Assembly Elections to be held next year, the TMC-leadership is disturbed by the way BJP is gaining from people switching over from Trinamool. In this regard, Mamata has been confident about the credibility of TMC and has stated repeatedly that whosoever are the fence seaters in the party, or possible defectors can leave. She had also castigated Suvendu Adhikari for benefiting from the party and switching right before the election for political stunt and mileage.
Sources from around the country indicate, especially after the beginning of Farmers’ protests in Delhi that the non-Bjp parties want to strengthen Mamata’s hand at any cost to stop the ‘saffronization’ of Bengal. According to UPA sources, one of the prominent faces in national politics, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, has extended a helping hand to TMC leadership. Pawar had recently called at the official residence of Mamata Banerjee to join the anti-BJP fight of 2021.
Sharad Pawar is well aware of how Bengal is being targeted using all the money power of BJP, and what kind of conspiracy is going on, like the examples of Telinipara violence. And that is why he has called for building an anti-BJP ‘grand platform’ in this fight. The two leaders also had a long talk on the telephone.
According to sources, Pawar has expressed interest in exposing the conspiracy of the Saffron camp by standing next to the Trinamool supremo. And he wants to do that in early January, when he comes to Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee, whose name is yet to be finalized as a possible UPA chairman, has also agreed to the proposal of the ‘power man’ of Maharashtra.
According to sources, not only the NCP chief but also the Shiv Sena, Congress, DMK, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have promised to be by Mamata Banerjee’s side in this complex cycle of politics. In this regard, SAD had recently taken initiatives to form a national alliance against BJP.
The anti-BJP ‘Mahamancha’, which has been drafted ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections, will be finalized at a large rally in Kolkata coming January. Preliminary talks have already started between the Trinamool supremo and Sharad Pawar. Not only the anti-BJP political parties, but also the Farmer-leaders in Singhu in the movement against the Farm-laws have expressed their support for Mamata in this fight against the Saffron camp.
In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, some regional parties openly stood by the Saffron camp in North Bengal, especially in Kochbihar and Jalpaiguri. Among them are Banshibadan Burman’s Greater Kochbihar People’s Association (GCPA) and Atul Roy’s Kamtapur People’s Party (KPP). Not only the parties opposing BJP at all-India level, but also GCPA and the KPP, which have an influence between the two traditional communities of Rajbangshi and Kamatapuris, have now announced in advance, that they will side with Mamata in this fight.
