On the Republic Day, when the farmer-protesters had planned for a peaceful tractor rally, some people piggybacked into the farmers’ rally and began creating ruckus from ITO onwards and the chaos gradually reached Red Fort. The chaos had resulted in damage to public property, injury to policemen, and protesters alike, and even the death of a person.
Deep Sidhu was in the group which instigated farmers to enter Red Fort. This was identified as a pre-planned step to malign the farmers’ movement. He was arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell on Tuesday morning. A cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information on Sidhu and two of his associates was announced by the Delhi Police. He was caught in Haryana’s Karnal, about 100 km from Delhi.
Reports said that he kept changing his location to evade arrest. He was accused of fueling chaos and clashes when a tractor rally (with routes mutually agreed upon by Police and the farmer-leaders) by farmers protesting against the centre’s three farm-laws went berserk on January 26. He was also blamed for leading a “conspiracy” against the protesters.
Deep Sidhu had campaigned for BJP’s Sunny Deol in 2019 elections.
