The result for Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Election 2021 was declared. The elections to 12,711-gram panchayats in 34 districts in Maharashtra were held on January 15. The counting of votes started at 9 am on January 18 and by the end of the day, the Maha Vikas Aghadi claimed that it has registered a ‘huge win’. The Opposition BJP, on another hand, said that it had come out stronger. Shiv Sena won most of the gram panchayat seats, which is agreed by MVA allies while BJP claims to have won more than 5,700 seats.

Till late evening on Tuesday, political circles in Maharashtra witnessed claims and counterclaims by MVA including Shiv Sena and BJP over winning a larger number of seats. Taking a dig at BJP in the party mouthpiece-Saamna, Shiv Sena stated that the people have supported the Maha Vikas Aghadi-MVA government led by Uddhav Thackeray. Shiv sena also added in Saamna that BJP should accept the defeat or else people will further rout out the party.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Harshal pradhan said that the party had won in 3113 gram panchayat seats, followed by BJP winning 2632 seats, NCP winning  2400 seats and the Congress winning 1823 seats. In 2017 panchayat election, Shiv Sena had won only 637 panchayats out of the 7590 that had gone to the polls.

In a new development in Maharashtra Panchayat polls, the Aam Aadmi Party has secured 96 seats in the gram panchayat elections. In Yavatmal district, it has won 41 seats, which is its highest score. It also won seats in Nagpur, Latur, Solapur, Gondia, Chandrapur, Nashik, Palghar, Hingoli, Jalna, Ahmadnagar, & Parbhani districts.

Transgender candidate Anjali Patil has won from the Bhadli Budruk Panchayat in Jalgaon district, as per reports in local media. As per a Maharashtra Times report, Patil was contesting from ward number four in Bhadli Budruk.

The State Election Commission had announced that voting for 162 gram panchayats in six talukas of Gadchiroli, a Naxal hotbed, will be conducted today (January 20).

MVA is the alliance between the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Indian National congress formed under the leadership of Sharad Pawar during the 2019 state election in Maharashtra, with support from Samajwadi Party, Prahar Janshakti party, PWPI, and other political parties including some independent leaders.
