Delhi Polls: Slamming Kejriwal, Nitish Kumar asks Delhi to vote for BJP-NDA govt

Attacking his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday said the minister ‘non-performed’ on development fronts during the last five years and asked Delhi voters to give a chance to BJP-led NDA government for overall development of Delhi, like Bihar.

Speaking at his first rally in Delhi ahead of the single-phase election on February 8, Kumar, with BJP president Amit Shah at his side, alleged the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government that it “has not done any real development”.
“The condition of Burari today is the same as that of Bihar in 2005… They (AAP government) talk about water supply but there’s no water. Roads, electricity, all are not in good shape. We ensured every house in Bihar received power supply. Everyone knows what’s the condition here (Burari) now,” Kumar said, referring to the locality in north Delhi that has often been in the news as among one of the least developed in the national capital.

Kumar and Shah slammed Kejriwal for “insulting” the people of Bihar and Purvanchal by saying that a person from the state buys a ticket to Delhi for Rs 500 and returns after availing free treatment worth Rs 5 lakhs.

Shah asserted that Delhi belongs equally to the people of Bihar and Purvanchal as it belongs to the locals.

“He will leave Hitler behind in spreading lies and propaganda,” Shah said.

Questioning Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claim of improving the education system in Delhi, Kumar asked how many schools did he build in the national capital in the last five years.

Bihar being a poor state has done a phenomenal job in areas of education, electricity and health, and strengthening road and transport infrastructure, he added.

“Some people are more interested in publicity and advertisements. Some people have the habit of praising oneself. We don’t do that. Those who got the mandate to govern Delhi did nothing” Kumar said, without naming Kejriwal.
The BJP is contesting the assembly polls in Delhi in alliance with the JD(U) and the Lok Janshakti Party.

Should BJP learn from Kejriwal? AAP chief stands united & slams Pak for targeting Modi

The shooting at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, the prime area of the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, has led to a war of words between the capital’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP. Blaming each other for the incident, AAP says BJP is responsible as the Delhi Police is under the control of the Centre, and BJP blames Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying he has links with Pakistan.
Hours after 25-year-old Kapil Gujjar opened fire standing near police barricades at the south Delhi locality, Kejriwal took on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a tweet.

“Amit Shah ji, what have you done to our Delhi? There’s shooting in broad daylight. The law and order has gone for a toss. Elections will come and go, politics will continue, but for the sake of the people of Delhi, please focus on law and order,” his tweet in Hindi read.

The response came, not from Amit Shah but Yogi Adityanath, who is one of the key campaigners of the BJP for the Delhi assembly elections slated for February 8.

“Enemies of India, who speak the language of Pakistan, are creating disorder by protesting everywhere. Protests against CAA and a Pakistani minister releasing a statement in favour of Kejriwal, it all looks linked,” Yogi Adityanath said at an public meeting in Delhi.
However, while BJP targeted Kejriwal saying he has links with Pakistan, Kejriwal showed opposite behaviour slamming Pakistan as they spoke against PM Modi. The CM warned the arch rival saying it shouldn’t interfere in India’s internal matters.

Giving a curt response to Pakistan minister Fawad Hussain, who in a Thursday tweet attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kejriwal, one of the most forceful critics of PM Modi, said Narendra Modi is his PM as well and India won’t tolerate Pakistan’s interference in its internal matters.

“Narendra Modi is India’s Prime Minister. He is my Prime Minister as well. Delhi Election is India’s internal matter, and we won’t tolerate interference of the supporters of terrorism,” he tweeted in Hindi.

“Pakistan can try as much as they want, but it cannot attack the unity of our country,” he added.

Fawad Hussain had attack PM Modi over his remark made earlier this week that Indian armed forces will not take more than 10 days to defeat Pakistan in an armed conflict.

Budget 2020 Reaction: While PM hails, see what AAP and other industry leaders have to say about it

As Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2020, she said, “Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “In May 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a massive mandate to form the government again. People of India have unequivocally given their janaadesh for not just political stability, but have also reposed their faith in our economic policy. This is a budget to boost their income and enhance their purchasing power.”

The budget invited mixed reaction from the industry and political world.

Hailing the budget, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “This budget has a vision and an action. It will help to increase farmer’s income. The new reforms announced in the budget will work to accelerate the economy, financially empower every citizen of the country and strengthen the foundation of the economy in this decade. Integrated approach to agriculture was adopted in the budget, which along with traditional methods will increase value addition in Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and also increase employment.”
Meanwhile, Senior TRS leader and vice- chairman of state Planning Commission B Vinod Kumar said the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was “passive” and that the states requests on irrigation and others have not been considered. “Its a passive budget. There is nothing new in the budget. There is no flagship programme,” Kumar said.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that step-motherly treatment has been meted out to Delhi again in the budget.

Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday slammed the Union Budget 2020, saying it offers nothing for education or economy. Talking to the media, he said that there was great anticipation around the Union Budget and people of Delhi had high hopes from the Central government particularly when the elections to the state assembly are merely a week away.

“However, this budget has deceived the people of Delhi in a big way, it lacks any vision and is particularly disappointing in the critical education sector,” the AAP leader said.
The Indian tech-industry has welcomed the thrust on emerging technologies, including quantum computing and building of data centre parks in the country.

Economists have offered mixed views on the Budget with some going public with their disappointment for not taking adequate measures to boost growth, while others said it is on expected lines.

The gems & jewellery industry welcomed the budget proposals that offer lots of sops to boost farmers’ income which in turn will boost gold demand.

Delhi Polls: ECI notice to senior BJP leader over outrageous ad

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a show-cause notice to the national general secretary of BJP, Arun Singh, for allegedly making false allegations against Congress in fray for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi.

“The Commission has received a complaint, from a delegation of Indian National Congress on January 28, 2020, wherein it has been alleged that “Bharatiya Janata Party” has made an advertisement in the print media making false, frivolous, baseless, unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations against the INC,” ECI said in the notice.

“The Commission gives you the opportunity to explain your position in making the above-said statement on or before Jan 31 noon, failing which the Commission shall take a decision without further reference to you,” ECI said in the notice.

The notice said that ECI finds BJP has prima facie violated the model code of conduct and gave time till Friday noon to the party general secretary to submit a written response.
The EC also cautioned the BJP against publishing the advertisement till the time a decision is taken on the issue.

“Commission, considering the gravity of the case, hereby directs that the advertisement in question shall not be repeated till such a time a decision is taken,” it said.
The notice has quoted the advertisement as saying that “15 saal Congress ki loot” (15 years of Congress’ loot).

As BJP continues to target him, ‘hurt’ Kejriwal tweets emotional message

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has hit out at the BJP after being repeatedly labelled a “terrorist” in an outrageous verbal assault by Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Verma at an election rally in West Delhi last week.

In an emotional Twitter post, Arvind Kejriwal said “after working hard, day and night, for Delhi for five years… in return BJP is calling me a terrorist. I am very sad”.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh said that they would approach the Election Commission to take action against the remark.

“I am a diabetic. I take insulin four times a day. Without food for four hours, patients collapse. Yet I sat on a fast twice — for 10 days and 15 days. I put my life at stake for the country. But they left no stone unturned to harass me. Yesterday, when I returned home, and spoke to my parents, they were unhappy. They know that Kejriwal is a staunch desh bhakt.” The Delhi CM added that the decision was now left to be taken by Delhi residents, “whether they consider me as their son, brother or antankwadi”.

Meanwhile, BJP continued to target Kejriwal, as the Delhi polls are approaching. After taking on the Kejriwal government over the alleged ‘failure’ of government schools in the national capital, the BJP released another video highlighting the ‘poor-infrastructure’ of Kejriwal’s flagship Mohalla Clinic initiative. “Kejriwal, you promised to open 1,000 mohalla clinics every year. Whatever small number of clinics you opened lack even the basic facilities,” BJP chief JP Nadda wrote in a tweet.

Former BJP chief Amit Shah termed the Delhi Chief Minister as the “biggest liar” he had seen in his entire life. Amit Shah said Arvind Kejriwal had lied that he won’t take a government bungalow or a car. “Now, he has bungalow and car both. Kejriwal is the biggest liar I have seen in my 56 years,” the BJP leader said.

Addressing a rally at Shastri Nagar in the Sadar Bazar constituency, Union Minister Smriti Irani alleged that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not respect women. She accused Kejriwal, of not helping AAP volunteer Soni Mishra, when she complained about her alleged physical harassment in 2016.

On the other front, The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has backed Aam Admi Party for the Delhi polls. Banerjee condemned attacks on Kejriwal during the general elections and lashed out at the BJP over the issue.

Rahul Gandhi attacks PM over jobs; BJP reverts saying “Rahul can join BJP if he has no work”

Launching a verbal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the leader if destroying India’s image and scaring away investors.
“The reputation and image that India had in the world was that it is a country of brotherhood, love and unity, while Pakistan was known for hatred and divisiveness. This image of India has been damaged by Narendra Modi. Today, India is considered as rape capital of the world,” Rahul Gandhi said as he addressed ‘Yuva Aakrosh’ rally in Jaipur.

He also targeted the BJP government over slowing economy. “In UPA’s time, the growth rate was 9 per cent. Modi government has slowed the growth rate by changing the calculation system. As per that system, the growth rate is 5 per cent. If it is calculated by the system prevailing during UPA, it is 2.5 per cent. It is shameful,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Rahul Gandhi said one crore people lost jobs in 2019 when the Prime Minister promised to create two crore opportunities. “PM Modi had promised to create two crore jobs but one crore people lost theirs last year,” the Gandhi scion said.
Hitting back at Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya has offered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to come to the Congress. Reacting to the question asked by Rahul Gandhi on the rising unemployment in the country, Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “If Rahul Gandhi is unemployed then we will give him work in BJP.”
UP Deputy CM further said that those who are raising questions about the Ganga Yatra are themselves in the circle of questions. He said that the public will respond to those who stand in support of Shaheen Bagh.

He also accused SP, BSP and Congress of instigating people for polarization of Muslim votes. Deputy CM said that the Popular Front of India is a changed form of SIMI. He said that after the ban on SIMI, this organization is conducting anti-national activities in the name of Popular Front of India.

Watch: Videos shared by Amit Shah that claim to ‘expose’ CM Kejriwal

Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah sparked war of words as he questioned AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘education revolution’ in the national capital.

Shah accused Kejriwal of lying on his claims on the education system, as he tweeted a video of a group of BJP MPs “exposing” the claims by investigating various schools run by the AAP government. The hashtags #KejriwalvsEntireBJP and #KejriwalExposed trended for many hours.
Sharing a four-minute video on Twitter, the Home Minister wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal ji, you had called me to visit the schools run by the Delhi government. Yesterday, eight MPs of Delhi had toured different schools and showed the conditions. The ground situation has exposed the claims of ‘revolution in education’. Now you have to give an answer to the public of Delhi.”

The video shows eight BJP parliamentarians – Harsh Vardhan, Vijay Goel, Parvesh Sahib Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Gautam Gambhir, Hansraj Hans, Manoj Tiwari and Ramesh Bidhuri – visiting some government-run schools and highlighting the lack of teachers, water and toilet facilities.
In response, the AAP leaders posted videos and photos that they said proved that some of the school photos were faked.

“Your MPs’ report is false. You misled people by taking videos of shut schools. Delhi’s education revolution happened because of the hard work of 16 lakh children, their parents and 65,000 teachers. You are insulting their effort. Why do you hate the people of Delhi so much,” Kejriwal tweeted.

They accused MP Gautam Gambhir of showing a building that has been closed for renovation since October. “Gautam Gambhir showed a school where renovation is going on. Maybe he was busy eating jalebis that he could not see the notice on the main gate,” Sisodia remarked.

BJP’s Manoj Tiwari attacks Kejriwal, accuses him of ‘insulting’ Purvanchalis

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has attacked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying the minister has insulted Purvanchalis and their culture by mocking ‘Rinkiya Ke Papa’ song.

The Purvanchalis, natives of Eastern UP and parts of Bihar living in Delhi, are not going to be swayed by Kejriwal government’s water and power freebies and 98 per cent of them are supporting the BJP, Tiwari said.

Kejriwal recently took a dig at Tiwari, popular Bhojpuri actor, referring to him as a “good singer” who rendered ‘Rinkiya Ke Papa’, when asked for his views about Delhi BJP president.
The name “Rinkiya” in the song refers to daughters. By, mocking the song, the AAP and Kejriwal also “demean” the role of daughters and women in the society, he asserted. “I pity his (Kejriwal) intelligence. At a time when ‘Beti Bachao’ is being talked about in the country, he is mocking fathers having daughter. ‘Rinkiya Ke Papa’ is just a song… Rinkiya symbolises daughters, is it a curse to have a daughter?,” Tiwari asked.

Kejriwal also “humiliated” the Purvanchalis over the issue of national register of citizens (NRC), he added.

“He (Kejriwal) and his party say if NRC is implemented in Delhi, Manoj Tiwari and Purvanchalis will have to leave the city. They say Purvanchalis buy Rs 500 ticket to come to Delhi for treatment at Delhi government hospitals and then go back to their home. Now, they are ridiculing me for my song Rinkiya Ke Papa,” the BJP leader said.

Delhi people will vote for “peace and safety” rather than for those backing protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he said.
Southwest Delhi’s Matiala has become the venue of the big fight today as both Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, lured voters by their respective programmes, ahead of assembly polls.

Delhi votes on February 8, in which Mr Kejriwl is seeking a second term. His Aam Aadmi Party — which won a record victory last time, capturing 67 of the city’s 70 seats — is targetting all 70 this time.

‘BJP has surrendered’, says AAP as it pits Sunil Yadav against Kejriwal

The BJP on Tuesday released the second list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly polls. The party has fielded state Yuva Morcha President Sunil Yadav from the New Delhi constituency against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Following the development, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the saffron party has surrendered before the polls.
“Going by this list and BJP candidate against CM Kejriwal, it seems, BJP has surrendered,” AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj tweeted on Tuesday.
He added that the ruling AAP will win all the 70 seats in the February 8 Assembly elections.

The list was announced after midnight following the announcement of Siromani Akali Dal (SAD) to not contest the Delhi polls in alliance with the BJP due to its stand on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

An advocate by profession, Yadav worked his way up the ranks from being the District President Yuva Morcha, Delhi General Secretary of Yuva Morcha, BJP. The party banked on his youth appeal while putting him against one of the most formidable candidates this poll season — Arvind Kejriwal.

The list also includes the names of BJP candidates Sumanlata Shokeen, who would content from Nangloi Jat, Ravindra Chaudhary from Kasturba Nagar, Kusum Khatri from Mehrauli and Anil Goyal from Krishna Nagar. In the first list, BJP had released 57 names in which figures like AAP rebel Kapil Mishra and BJP veteran Vijender Gupta figured.

While the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) formed pre-poll alliance with the BJP for the assembly election in Delhi, the saffron party’s age-old ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stay off.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal will today file his nomination for the February 8 poll, a day after the process was postponed as Kejriwal failed to reach the EC office on time, due to a massive roadshow by the AAP.

“I had to file my nomination today [Monday] but I could not because the nomination office closes at 3 pm and was late. I was repeatedly told to come off (vehicle) and travel to the nomination office, but how could I go? I could not leave behind the outpouring love and support from my people. We are ending the roadshow here. I will go along with my family and file my nomination on Tuesday,” Kejriwal said.

Delhi Elections: BJP, Congress take a dig at Kejriwal’s ‘Guarantee card’

Opposition BJP and Congress dubbed AAP’s ‘guarantee card’ a “jumla” (gimmick) and a “lie’, ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

“As the Aam Aadmi Party stares at defeat in the upcoming elections, it has come out with a ‘Kejriwal Ka Guarantee Card’ which is yet another jumla card to fool the people of Delhi and divert their attention from Kejriwal government’s failures in the past five years,” Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra said.

“Kejriwal wasted his time clashing with the officials, the central government, the Lt Governor and the municipal corporations of Delhi without fulfilling the promises made to the people, in last five years,” Chopra added.

Kejriwal woke up to the reality of “serving” the people of Delhi only in the last five-six months after remaining in deep “slumber” for four and a half years, he said.

“The guarantee cards issued by AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal are the 10 new lies spoken to the people of Delhi,” he charged.

The Delhi Congress president accused Kejriwal of making “hollow promises” in his party’s guarantee card.

“Rattled by the Congress”s exposes against the AAP government in last few weeks that were supported by data, Kejriwal came up with a jumla card,” said Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised a set of what he called a “10-point guarantee card” to the voter ahead of the Delhi assembly elections.

The list guaranteed free power, 24-hour drinking water on tap and a world-class education, clean environment, and housing to every slum dweller, among other things.
