Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his famous ‘bear hug’ to the US President Donald Trump as he welcomed him on Monday at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport at Ahmedabad. Trump, who is here to strengthen ties between the two nations, is here for a two-day visit.
Trump, who is accompanied by the US First Lady Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, visited the Sabarmati Ashram and even tries his hands at the charkha, as he explored the city.
Trump and Modi began their roadshow from the airport.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also present at the airport along with other officials to welcome the visiting dignitaries. As he walked the red carpet the US President was accorded a tri-service guard of honour.
On behalf of 65 million Gujaratis, it’s an honour to welcome the President of the USA, Donald Trump, on his maiden visit to Gujarat, Rupani said in a series of tweets.
“Hum Bharat aane ke liye tatpar hain. Hum raste me hain, kuchh hi ghanton me hum sab milenge (We are excited to come to India. We are on the way, we wil be meeting in some time from now),” Trump had tweeted in Hindi before departing from US visit.

Meanwhile, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah arrived at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, ahead of ‘Namaste Trump’ even at the stadium.
