In few hours, US President Donald Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad today with his wife Melania Trump for the first leg of his maiden India trip. Trump is also accompanied by daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and top brass of his administration.
ITC Maurya, the hotel where Trump will check-in, has been brought under an unprecedented security cover with anti-sabotage teams involving the Army and paramilitary conducting checks on the routes to be taken by the visiting dignitary.
Security agencies are also working in close coordination with the US Secret Service, officials said.
Anti-drone detachment of NSG, snipers, elite SWAT commandos, kite catchers, canine units, sharp shooters on high-rise buildings and Parakram vans have also been deployed along the routes and areas in and around the hotel where Trump will be staying, they said.
“I look forward to being with the people of India. We are going to have many millions and millions of people. It’s a long trip. I get along very well with Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi. He is a friend of mine,” Trump told reporters outside the White House before leaving for India.
The new Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad is set to welcome Trump with Prime Minister Narendra Modi playing host and over a lakh people expected in the arena for the ‘Namaste Trump’ event.
Welcoming Trump, Modi, ahead of his visit said, “India awaits your arrival President Donald Trump. Your visit is definitely going to further strengthen the friendship between our nations. See you very soon in Ahmedabad.”
After Ahmedabad, Trump will also make a visit to Taj Mahal in Agra, before moving to the national capital.
“People can visit the Taj in the morning but tickets will be issued till 11:30 am, and by noon or so the premises will be cleared of visitors in view of the high security arrangements for President Trump’s visit,” officials said
