Donald Trump held delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on the last day of his India visit.
Earlier, the US President paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and was also given a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
While the US First Lady Melania Trump attended ‘Happiness Class’ programme at a Delhi school, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held talks at the Hyderabad House.
Talking of the violent incidents over CAA in New Delhi during his visit, Trump said, “I didn’t discuss with PM Modi, it is up to India.” He added, “India has worked very hard to ensure religious freedom. PM Modi wants people to have religious freedom.”
Speaking on the roadmap to address radical terrorism, he said, “We killed al-Baghdadi a few months ago. Qasem Soleimani is gone. Hamza Bin Laden (Osama’s son) is gone. Nobody has done more than what I have done. But at the same time Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria should do it too.”
Trump and Modi announced some modest agreements on defense and security, including the purchase of $3 billion worth of American military helicopters and other equipment for its Navy. The pair also outlined new agreements for energy purchases and a joint mental health initiative.
Donald Trump interacted with media where he said “India is a tremendous country and market” and that India would like to see an Afghan peace deal.
Trump says drop in stock markets on Monday was something bad but “feel we are in pretty good shape in the US in terms of coronavirus”.
India and the US held talks in five major categories – security, defence, energy, technology and people to people contact, however, long impending US-India trade deal still did not happen.
