After eight days of high-voltage drama and bloodbath, gangster Vikas Dubey, who led to the death of 8 policemen in Kanpur’s Bikru village, was shot dead early Friday by the STF and police.
The encounter occurred near Sachendi area, 2km from district headquarters, when one of the three police vehicles taking gangster Vikas Dubey to Kanpur from Ujjain, where he was arrested, overturned following heavy rains near Sachendi on the highway.
Taking advantage of the situation, Dubey allegedly attempted to snatch a weapon and flee the scene, police said, following which they opened fire and shot him. Two policemen were also injured.

The exact date of birth and year of VIikas Dubey, born in the village Bikaru, of Kanpur Dehat Uttar Pradesh, is still unknown.
However, he is reported to be about 40-50 years old.
Dubey reportedly committed his first crime at the age of 17 in his hometown. Post that, he went absconding for almost 5 years.
He had over 60 criminal cases against his name involving murder, extortion and land grabbing.
His first wife was found dead in his house under mysterious circumstances.
According to reports Vikas Dubey disclosed his name at the counter of Ujjain temple where he was giving money for donation and then asked them to inform the police.
Dubey is known to go by the name Vikas Pandit, naming himself after the titular character of the 1999 film Arjun Pandit.
He was known to be alternatively referred to by this name, or simply as Pandit.
