Voting for the first phase began today in West Bengal and Assam. Election Commission of India stated that 8.84% and 7.72% voter turnouts were recorded till 9 am, in the first phase of polling in Assam and West Bengal Assembly elections, respectively.
As voting for the first phase of state assembly elections is underway, a delegation of TMC MPs is set to meet West Bengal CEO today at 12 noon to “raise some serious concerns”.

Ahead of voting for West Bengal polls, in East Midnapore, 2 security personnel were injured in a firing incident early morning today at Satsatmal, Bhagwanpur assembly constituency.
Voting is taking place for 30 assembly seats in Bengal and 47 seats in Assam.

In Assam the BJP faces a challenge from the Congress-led ‘mahajot’, or ‘grand alliance’ to retain power. In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP have waged a high-pitched personalized battle with high-stakes in what occasionally became a vicious campaign over the past few weeks.
The vote counting and declaration of results for both the states are scheduled on May 02.
