Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister – Yogi Adityanath and his government is being scrutinized over their handling of the Hathras case. On Tuesday, October 6th, he claimed this was all an opposition conspiracy against him while mentioning his involvement in resolving the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests.

Following the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the time given to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to submit their report to the CM has been extended by 10 days in order to the review the matter and examine the available evidence to reach a final decision.

Awanish K Awasthi – the State Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, announced on Wednesday, October 7th, that the team has been provided with 10 additional days to submit their final investigation report.

After much hue and cry over poor handling of the Hathras case, Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been assigned to look into the unfortunate Hathras incident where a young Dalit woman was gang raped and murdered brutally.

CM Yogi confronts opposition by reminding them how his government was able to ‘unmask’ the people who sheltered the ‘Tablighi Jamaat’ during the pandemic and tried to spread Covid-19 disease despite the imposed restrictions.

“You must have seen their faces, those who protested against the CAA; those who, during the corona pandemic, sheltered Tablighi Jamaat to try and spread the disease…who tried to spread anarchy at different levels in the state…not only did the government unmask them but also took steps to counter these elements.”- the CM said. He also claimed that the opposition does this to be involved in ‘negative publicity’ and inhibit the state’s development.

However, the Supreme Court called the Hathras case ‘horrible and shocking’ while hearing a plea for investigation into the matter with the help of SIT or CBI. The final petition was filed in the SC by advocates Rudra Pratap Yadav and Vishal Thakre along with activist Satyama Dubey.

Indira Jaising – senior advocate had suggested that the case should be transferred to Delhi and the victim’s family be granted witness protection, as he expressed his concerns over the case.
