On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, Pakistan claimed that the Kashmir issue is one of the longest-running disputations at the United Nations. India in response has disregarded this claim stating that Islamabad should rather be focusing upon curbing terrorism in Pakistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, on the 75th anniversary of the global body appreciated them for all their achievements but did not step back from referring to some of the drawbacks and failings of the UN. He said that even though the organization is lauded at various platforms for its accomplishments, people of Jammu & Kashmir are still waiting for the commitments made by the UN to be fulfilled, which is the right to self- determination.

Qureshi also added that presently, the UN is derided as a talk shop. Its resolutions and decisions are flouted. He further added that the international cooperation, especially in the Security Council, is at its lowest.

Vidisha Maitra, the first secretary of the Indian delegation soon replied to this statement by practicing the ‘right of reply’ at the UN. In her reply she stated that India had hoped that the General Assembly would be spared another repetition of the baseless falsehoods that have now become a trademark of Pakistan’s interventions on such platforms. She added in a reference to Pakistan that for a nation that is bereft of milestones, one can only expect a stonewalled and stymied approach to diplomacy, reason and dialogue.

She also said that Pakistan was interfering with the internal matters of India by speaking about the Kashmir issue at the UN platform.

This discussion was called as a never-ending fabricated narrative by Maitra, stating that the Pakistani representatives will never stop interfering with the internal matters of India. Recognizing J&K as an integral part of India, the UN is ready to let go of such spiteful references made by Pakistan.

Maitra added taking a jibe at Pakistan that if there is an item that is unfinished on the agenda of the UN it is that of tackling the scourge of terrorism. She stated that Pakistan has globally been recognized as the epicenter of terrorism, which by its admission harbors and trains terrorists and hails them as martyrs and consistently persecutes its ethnic and religious minorities. She further suggested that the Pakistani government should rather be focusing upon their failures as a nation, try to curb their everlasting issue of terrorism and stop worrying about other nations and their drawbacks.
