United States Vice president Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris kicked off their first and only debate on Wednesday night in Salt Lake city, Utah, in what also marked the debut of an Indian origin person on the podium for the vice presidential debate.
Discussion over the ongoing pandemic and an effective vaccine against Covid-19 dominated a large part of the debate.
“If the public health professionals, if Dr Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, I will be the first in line to take it, absolutely. But if Donald Trump tells us we should take it, I’m not taking it,” Kamala Harris said in distain as the topic of vaccine came up.
She added, “The American people have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country. Whatever the vice president is claiming the administration has done, clearly it hasn’t worked, when you’re looking at over 210,000 dead bodies in our country.”
“Joe Biden believes the health of economy should be measured by the health of the American workers. But Donald Trump believed the economy should be measured by how rich people are. Joe will invest in innovation, education, clean energy, infrastructure. He believes in investing into the people of America,” Harris added.
All this while, President Donald Trump, who is quarantining at the White House as he recovers from COVID-19,apparently watched the vice presidential debate. He took to Twitter to praise Pence and slam the Democratic vice presidential nominee less than an hour into Wednesday’s debate in Salt Lake City.
“Mike Pence is doing GREAT! She is a gaffe machine,” Trump chimed in on Twitter.
Prior to this, Trump has now called coronavirus infection “a blessing from God” because it educated him about potential drugs to treat the disease. In a video message to the nation, he once again went on to blame China for the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that it is going to pay a big price for what they have done to the world.
In a new update on October 7, White House physician Dr Sean Conley said that President Trump has been “fever-free” for four days and hasn’t shown any symptoms for “over 24 hours.” “The President this morning says ‘I feel great!’,” Conley said in a memo, shared by the White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. He added, that President Trump has not had any symptoms of coronavirus, declaring, that the US President was “symptom-free”.
