Coming year, Bengal polls would be the first major election in India. In this context, Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Raut had stated that the issue of Love jihad should be brought to the fore and made part of the election debates in the state.

Taking a dig at the Bihar CM, Raut said that Maharashtra would soon bring out a law on Love jihad after examining the law passed by Bihar. Recently, in another sensationalist statement, Union minister Giriraj Singh, had stated that Love jihad is a cancer for communal harmony.

The statement from Raut comes after the announcement by the CM of UP, Yogi Adityanath, that a law against love jihad and forced conversion would be brought in UP Vidhan Sabha.

On February 4, this year, the Union Home ministry had clarified officially that there is no definition of Love Jihad in the laws and there are no cases in records so far which can be called as love jihad. But, two cases of inter-faith marriages have been investigated by the NIA in Kerala.
