Rakeshar Singh Manhas is in the centre of news related to the latest Maoist attack in Sukma-Bijapur. On April 03, Manhas had gone missing after the gun-battle between the security forces and the Maoists. He is one of the CoBRA jawans and he was captured by the Maoists during the attack. On Wednesday, his picture was released by the Maoists. In the released picture, the CoBRA jawan Manhas can be seen sitting on a plastic mat under a temporary shelter, which can possibly be a Maoist camp.

The picture was released a day after the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee of the banned Maoist organization issued a press note, in which it demanded the government mandated interlocutors to whom the captured jawan would be handed over to.

The Maoists had released a statement where they stated that their fight is not against the security forces. The statement claimed that a total of 28 Maoists have been killed in the last four months across the country & they have been able to “kill or injure nearly 100 policemen” during the same time. It also added that the Maoists believe that the security personnel who get recruited to the forces are also part of the exploited group of people. In the statement, the Maoists added that people and family of the deceased security-personnel should not send any more of their children to fight against the Left-wing groups, after adding that the Maoists have sympathies for the families of the fallen soldiers.
