Jammu residents have been facing erratic power supply, during the scorching hot weather there. Despite this and public outcry, on Friday the power development department in Jammu announced a 20 day massive power curtailment plan for urban and rural areas of Jammu. Electric supply will remain cut for 2 to 6 hours daily from June 11 to June 30.
The announcement by the PDD read, “Due to extreme hot weather conditions and resultant overloading of electrical infrastructure at Grid station level, 33 KV lines and 33/11KV receiving stations, the Power Development department shall enforce load shedding in various areas from 11 to 30 June, 2021.”

Jammu division has been witnessing massive power failures for the past three days. On Social media, residents have been cursing the Lt governor’s administration for chaos. People are accusing that instead of improving power supply, authorities have imposed massive curtailment on the consumers.
Despite centre investing hundreds of crores towards upgrading power infrastructure, turmoil in the electrical sector is continuing in Jammu. The PDD staff are being blamed for the mess in the power supply and distribution in Jammu division.

In this regard, Baseer Khan, LG’s adviser held a meeting with PDD officials to resolve the power crisis. Perhaps, this is the first time that such a massive electric cut has been ordered in Jammu in peak summer.
