As Assam continues to burn over the Citizenship Amendment Bill that got passed in Rajya Sabha on December 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called out for peace and assured Assam people that their rights and unique identity will be protected.
Speaking at a rally in Jharkhand, Modi allayed concerns in the North East over the bill. He also slammed the Congress for divisive politics and fuelling the furore.
Addressing a massive gathering at Dhanbad, Modi said, “I ask you to have confidence and faith in Modi your pradhansevak. The people of north-east will not be harmed. Their rights will be protected. BJP is committed to improve their future. The government is tirelessly working to provide a better future to the youth of the region.”
He asked the Assam youth and public to calm down adding that they should stop worrying as nobody could take away their rights. He further said, BJP was committed to protecting the culture, traditions and language of the north-east, especially Assam.”
He attacked Congress for criticising the CAB, saying, “Do not get swayed by lies of Congress and their political partners. Congress is practising divisive politics and this has set the north-east on fire. He added, “CAB does not have anything to do with existing citizens of the country. Most parts of the north-eastern states are out of the bill’s purview. Improving the pace of development and infrastructure improvement in the north-east is our top priority.
India on Thursday created history as the Citizenship Amendment Bill got passed in Rajya Sabha. While the Prime Minister hailed the development calling it a ‘landmark day for India’, Congress on the other hand slammed the move.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi termed it as the ‘dark day’ in constitutional history of India.
