Cai Xia, a noted professor who teaches at the Central Party school of China which trains top Chinese government officials, has hit out at the seemingly unlimited power enjoyed by the president Xi Jinping. In her scathing critique of the Chinese president, the professor asserted that the unchecked power of the president Jinping has made China an enemy of the world. She was expelled from the party on August 17th after one of her audio recordings of criticisms of Xi went online. In an interview to the British daily newspaper, the Guardian, the professor claimed that she was happy at her expulsion.

In late February 2018, the communist party of China had cleared the way for Xi Jinping to remain in power indefinitely. This move was carried out through a constitutional amendment which was a worrisome development in the eyes of the advocates of political liberalization of China. The step enabled Xi to remain president well beyond 2023, ten years from whence he took over the office. In this political backdrop, Cai commented that the communist party has become an obstacle to the growth and progress of China instead of being a driving force for development. She compared the president to a mafia boss and the party to a political zombie. She also stated that there are many more who want to come out of the suffocating environment of the Chinese communist party as there is little room for any divergent views or opinion. Cai Xia further added that party is pitting China against the world. In the website, the central party school stated that it had rescinded the professor’s communist party membership and retirement benefits. She is the third professor who had been expelled in recent months from the party after criticising Xi.
