Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren will will take oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Jharkhand today.

A day after staking claim to form the government in Jharkhand, Hemant Soren met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and invited her for his swearing-in ceremony. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are other political bigwigs who are expected to attend the ceremony.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, DMK president MK Stalin, CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar, are also expected to mark the occasion.

Rameshwar Oraon, the President of Congress’ Jharkhand unit, and senior JMM leader Stephen Marandi, a former Deputy Chief Minister, are also likely to take oath along with Hemant Soren.

So, as Soren gears up for the big role, here are few facts that you perhaps don’t know about the minister.

  1. Born on August 10, 1975 to Sibu Soren and Roopi Soren, Hemant Soren did his matriculation from Patna’s MG High School in 1990.
  2. Soren got enrolled to Mechanical Engineering at Ranchi’s BIT (Mesra). However, he could not complete it due to personal reasons.
  3. Hemant started his political career on December 23, 2009 by getting elected as MLA.
  4. The death of elder brother Durga in 2009 marked a turning point in Hemant’s life. Durga was considered as Shibu Soren’s successor. But his untimely death resulted in Hemant coming to the center of state politics.
  5. Hemant became the youngest Chief Minister of Jharkhand in 2013 and held the post till December 2014.
  6. Hemant is married to Kalpana Soren and the couple is blessed with two sons.
  7. Hemant is an ardent follower of Birsa Munda, the nineteeth century tribal warrior and takes inspiration from his courage and valour.
