It is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday today. No wonder then, the entire country is marking the day in a special way. From politicians to sports bigwigs and personalities from the entertainment world, everyone is pouring in their congratulatory messages to the PM on twitter as he turns 69 on Tuesday.
As per Modi’s agenda for the day, the minister started off his day with seeking his mother Hiraben’s blessings early morning, followed by a puja at the Narmada district of Gujarat. The puja was a part of the Namami Devi Narmada Mahotsav which is being organised by the Vijay Rupani government to mark the rise of water levels –138.68 metres — in the Sardar Sarovar dam.
Then he addressed the nation in the morning, followed by a visit at the Statue of Unity in his home state of Gujarat. He also reviewed multiple projects including the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River.
So while the Prime Minister is ringing in his special day this way, we bring you some unknown facts about him, as Modi turns a year older. Here’s a look:
- As a teenager, Modi provided his services during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. He enthusiastically assisted the soldiers at the railway stations during their journey.As a child, Narendra Modi dreamt of serving in the Indian Army. He wanted to study in the Sainik school located nearby Jamnagar but couldn’t join because there was no money to pay the fees at home.
- Narendra Modi is brand conscious person. He prefers wearing clothes from a certain brand called ‘Jade Blue’ which is an Ahmedabad based textile company.
- Narendra Modi decided to leave home for travelling across India, at the tender age of 17. During his journey he came across many cultures of India and met different people. He also visited the Himalayas and spent almost two years as a sanyasi with the yogic sadhus. These experiences left a lasting experience on a young Modi.
- When Modi joined RSS, his first job was to mop the floor at the RSS Headquarters in Ahmedabad.
- Narendra Modi is fond of writing poems and photography. He has also written books. One of his famous books is Sangharsh Ma Gujarat.
- Narendra Modi was engaged to a local girl, Jashodaben, while he was still a child.
- In the year 2005, USA denied visa to Narendra Modi citing his failure to curb the communal riots in 2002 in Gujarat.
- Very few know that Modi has undertaken a three-month course on Image Management and Public Relations, in the US.
