In Assam, in the run-up to the assembly election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda addressed rallies in Majuli and Tingkong on Monday, where they lavished praise on Modi for a “infiltration, militancy and corruption-free” state. They accused the Congress of practising “politics of opportunism”.
On Monday, Amit Shah addressed rallies in Dhemaji and Maujli in Assam and said that BJP’s priority of development and security has changed the state in the last 5 years. If Congress comes to power, Shah added that infiltration and terrorism would increase. Shah said in Dhemaji, “Congress party’s policy is to “quarrel, break and rule” whereas BJP believes in “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
BJP President JP Nadda, addressing more rallies in Dibrugarh and Jorhat, said that since NDA came to power, “it changed the face of Assam” and that BJP has been at the forefront of contributing to the state’s progress. This, he said, was prevented during Congress’s regime who “neglected the region, preventing the wheel of development here.”
Mr Shah also praised Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP’s trouble-shooter in the northeast, and slammed the Congress for not doing anything during the 15 years it was in power.
BJP chief JP Nadda, meanwhile, was in Tingkong, where MLA Bimal Bora is up for re-election.
On Kaziranga, Home Minister said, “During Congress rule land in Satra and Kaziranga were safe havens for infiltrators. But in the last five years we have freed these lands.”
Mr Shah hit out at the Congress-led opposition alliance, which includes Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). He said that the AIUDF was sitting on the Congress’ lap.
Few days back, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is contesting the assembly polls from Jalukbari seat, has filed his nomination in Guwahati. NEDA is a part of the NDA led by BJP.
The elections in Assam will be held in three phases and it will begin on March 27, with the vote counting and declaration of results scheduled on May 02.
