Justice has been finally served, seven years after the heinous crime, where four men brutally gangraped a young medical student that led to her death, that scarred not just entire India but the whole world.

All four convicts, Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26), and Akshay Kumar Singh (31), of the Nirbhaya case, will be hanged to death at 7 am on January 22, 2020.

A sessions judge at the Patiala House court in the national capital heard a plea filed today by the parents of Nirbhaya, and sent out the verdict, signing the death warrants.

“This judgement will reinforce people’s faith in the judiciary and empower women. My daughter will get justice,” said Nirbhaya’s mother, who had petitioned for a death warrant, saying she had waited seven years for justice.
The convicts have been given exactly fourteen days to redeem the legal remedies available to them which include mercy pleas and curative petitions.
According to reports, the counsel for Akshay Thakur has claimed that the police and media “leaked news” and the counsel for Mukesh Thakur said that he was convicted ina “media trial”. Convicts Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh are yet to file the curative petition and the mercy plea while Vinay Sharma’s mercy plea was rejected by the President of India. The fifth accused, Ram Singh, had committed suicide in Tihar Jail in March 2013.

The mother of Mukesh Singh, one of the convicts, walked up to Nirbhaya’s mother and begged for forgiveness. “I appeal to you to forgive my son. I am begging for his life,” she said.

The 23-year-old girl, who came to be known as “Nirbhaya (fearless)”, died days after she was raped on a moving bus, tortured with an iron rod and dumped on the road, naked and bleeding, on December 16, 2012. She had boarded the bus wither friend after a movie, from South Delhi.

Th brutal killing led to nation-wide protests and also reforms in laws, rules and regulations.
