After the BJP returned to power for the second consecutive term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reviewed the progress made by various ministries in the last six months.

He met with his council of ministers to discuss developmental issues including distressed agri sector, besides rural development and the social sector. The meeting came amid continuous violent protests against the CAA, calling for curfews and strict regulation in various parts of India.

Members of the various ministries apparently discussed various decisions taken by them in brief presentations.

In the past few weeks, the Prime Minister has reviewed progress made by various ministries in implementing the government’s policies during cabinet meetings.

Today’s meeting was attended by ministers of state and ministers of state with independent charge.

Usually, the Council of Ministers meets after the Cabinet meeting every month. But this time, the meeting is being held independently. The regular weekly Cabinet meeting will be held on December 24, the sources said.

Modi checked the report card of his ministers two days later when he claimed that his government has laid a strong foundation for the $5 trillion economy.

Speaking at ASSOCHAM’s annual conference, Modi said that before 2014 the country was heading towards disaster.

“My govt not only stopped it but brought discipline to the Indian economy. Initially a lot of people criticised the target and said that it cannot be achieved like they did when he wanted to made India open defecation free. But now many people are warming up to the target. Today the country has such a govt that listens to farmers, labourers, industry and the traders…and is trying to act on their advice. We brought GST and we listened to traders to improve it,” he said.
