Amid uncertainty over leadership issue in the Congress, senior party leader AK Antony has said Sonia Gandhi is its leader and will continue till the time the party wants.

Antony stated this while addressing a press conference in the capital on the policy group meet under the chairmanship of Sonia Gandhi.

“Sonia ji is our supreme leader. She is a Congress person and she will continue to lead the Congress to success as long as the party wishes… she made the sacrifices because of the unanimous request of the entire Congress party. Don’t be concerned about Sonia Gandhi ji’s issue, she is our president, she will continue as long as she and the party want,” Antony said.

When asked about Rahul Gandhi the senior leader said that “Rahul Gandhi will bounce back with more strength”.

Rahul, who had quit as party president after Congress’ dismal performance in the Lok Sabha election, addressed five rallies in Maharashtra and three in Haryana, in line with his policy of staying away from party affairs.

Senior leader Digvijaya Singh tweeted: “Everyone was predicting a landslide victory for BJP in Haryana and Maharashtra but the sheer courage of Congress workers proved the pollsters wrong. We have done unexpectedly well even in by-elections. Well done!! Congress Party Zindabad Sonia Gandhi Zindabad.”

The Congress has termed the results of two state Assembly elections as encouraging as it increased it’s tally from previous results.

Antony said the blame of electoral loss cannot be put on the Gandhi family. “If there is defeat, you will give all the blame to the Congress family, if Congress succeeds, you will say it is because if circumstances. People will not buy this theory.”
