Following the deadly clashes in Delhi over CAA and NRC protests on Tuesday, the traffic has been resumed to normal today.

“Entry and exit gates of all metro stations have been opened. Normal services have resumed,” tweets Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at 6.27am.

On February 25 evening, the traffic remained heavy in Chanakyapuri, RML roundabout, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Cantonment, Delhi-Gurgaon Road (NH 48) and adjoining areas.

Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory a day after five people, including a policeman, were killed and around 50 were injured on Monday after violence broke out across northeast Delhi.
US President Donald Trump’s visit to Delhi were overshadowed by deadly protests that have continued to engulf India’s capital, as Muslim and Hindu groups clashed violently and the death toll rose to 17.

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi on Tuesday evening before he left India, Trump said he had not brought up the violence with prime minister Narendra Modi, saying he would not comment on “individual cases”.

However, the president said the pair had discussed the rising attacks on the Muslim community and he was satisfied that Modi worked “really hard” on religious freedom.

The violence is centred on Muslim-majority neighbourhoods in north-east Delhi. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) – which critics say is anti-Muslim – has sparked massive protests since it was passed last year, and some of those have turned violent. But the demonstrations in Delhi have been peaceful until now.

On Monday evening, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said the situation was “under control” but violence continues to be reported from neighbourhoods in the area. The Home Ministry has said it will “monitor the situation”.
