Six days after he expanded the cabinet on December 30, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday allocated the portfolios to his team of ministers.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has approved the allocation of portfolios as proposed by Thackeray.

While Nationalist Congress Party’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is the new Finance Minister, his party colleague Anil Deshmukh has bagged the role of the Home Minister.

Shiv Sena’s newest leader and Uddhav’s son Aditya Thackeray is the new Environment and Tourism Minister, Eknath Shinde will handle the Urban Development portfolio, while their senior party colleague Subhash Desai will handle Industries Ministry.

While former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has been given the Public Works Department, the Congress’ Balasaheb Thorat is the new Revenue Minister. Nitin Raut will handle new Energy portfolio.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will also head General Administration, Information Technology, Information and Public Relations, Law and Judiciary and other departments not allotted to any other Ministers.

Vijay Wadettiwar will be Minister for Other Backward Classes, Socially and Educationally Backward Classes, Vimukta Jati, Nomadic Tribes and Special Backward Classes Welfare, Khar Land Development and Earthquake Rehabilitation.

Amit Deshmukh will be Medical Educational and Cultural Affairs Minister.

The NCP earlier said the allocation of portfolios is taking time as the government is mulling the creation of a few new departments.

Enraged by his exclusion from the list of ministers from Maharashtra, Congress MLA from the Jalna Assembly seat, Kailash Goryantal stated that he will resign from the party along with his supporters.

“My supporters and I have decided to submit our resignation letters to the state party president. I have been elected as the MLA for the third time and I work for my people. Still, I have not been made a minister,” Gorantyal told reporters.

Gorantyal has won from the Jalna Assembly seat in 1999, 2009 and 2019 elections.
