Amid rising cases of COVID-19, Delhi chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made key announcements on Sunday.

The Delhi Cabinet decided Sunday that beds in hospitals run by the state government shall be reserved for residents of the national capital till the corona pandemic subsides. The decision will not cover hospitals like AIIMS and Safdarjung that come under the Union government.

“A five-member committee assessed the situation and found that by the end of June, we will be needing around 15,000 beds to treat infected patients. There are around 10,000 beds each in Delhi government and Centre-run hospitals. The Cabinet has decided that beds in Delhi government hospitals should be reserved only for people of Delhi,” he said while addressing citizens through video-conferencing.

He said that restaurants, malls and places of worship will open but said the government will take a call on opening banquet halls later.

The chief minister also announced opening of Delhi’s borders from Monday.

He also asked people to keep following social distancing and other norms even during relaxations. “Relaxations do not mean that coronavirus disease has ended,” Kejriwal said.

He also urged senior citizens to observe extra caution, and reduce interact “even with family members” as much as possible.
