On May 16, India got its new political asa well as viral sensation, the Cockroach Janta Party, a satirical digital outfit, formed after the controversy over Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s “parasites” and “cockroaches” remark.

Within hours of its formation, the CJP took the internet by storm with gaining 19 million followers in one day.

But who is this Abhijeet Dipke who has shook the entire nation by forming a party that is still an Instagram page and is yet to be formed on papers but still has managed to disturbed the peace of many political leaders.

Abhijeet, who is reportedly 30 year-old, is currently pursuing his master’s in public relations at the Boston University.

He studied journalism from Pune and was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party from 2020 to 2023. He also volunteered with the party’s social media team. He reportedly worked for AAP’s meme based digital campaigning during the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections.

Catching eyeballs, the website of the Cockroach Janta Party describes itself as a “political party for the people the system forgot to count. It calls itself the “voice of the lazy and unemployed”.

Abhijeet, who describes the ‘eligibility criteria’ as somebody who is unemployed, lazy, and chronically online and should have the “ability to rant professionally” to join the party, has certainly hit the right chords of people who are struggling to lead a quality life in India.

The outfit has gained online attention through sharp political satire and commentary using memes. Much of its content centres on youth concerns, such as unemployment, examination paper leaks, and education, packaged through graphics, animation, manifestos, and charter-style demands.

The satirical outfit was founded after a controversy over Chief Justice of India Surya Kant using “parasites” and “cockroaches” while pulling up a lawyer for his plea seeking senior designation.

“There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don’t get any employment or have any place in profession. Some of them become media, some of them become social media, RTI activists and other activists and they start attacking everyone,” he said during a hearing on May 15.
