With campaigning entering the last phase in full swing, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to win votes and hearts. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to will address rallies in Ballia, Buxar, Sasaram and Chandigarh, BJP president Amit Shah is set for his road show from Shahid Minar, Dharmatala, in West Bengal.

Shah’s roadshow in Kolkata on Tuesday ended up in violent clashes between Trinamool Congress youth members and BJP workers. The protests happened near Kolkata’s iconic Presidency College and Calcutta University. Black flags were waved at Shah and stones pelting incidents reported at his convoy. During the violence, the mob not just vandalised the college hostel but also broke the 200-year-old statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.

Reacting strongly on the incident TMC leaders blamed BJP of bringing in ‘outsiders’ for all the damage.

On the other hand, Shah alleged, “TMC workers attacked us and tried to sabotage the roadshow while the police remained mute spectators.”

The incident happened after BJP activist Priyanka Sharma was held for allegedly sharing a morphed photo of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on social media. Sharma’s arrest invited an array of protests from the BJP and other social media users.
